It has finally been made official today; Australian driver Daniel Ricciardo is no longer part of the RB team, as Liam Wilson will take his seat from the United States Grand Prix in Austin until the end of the current season.

The announcement was made official through the team’s social networks, as well as in Formula 1. Ricciardo had arrived at RB to replace Nyck de Vries starting with the Hungarian Grand Prix last season, after the Dutch driver failed to meet the expectations that the team had placed on him.

RB leaders spoke about Ricciardo

“Everyone at VCARB would like to thank Daniel for his hard work over the past two seasons with us.“He has brought a wealth of experience and talent to the team with a fantastic attitude, which has helped everyone develop and foster a united team spirit. Daniel has been a true gentleman both on and off the track and has never stopped smiling. He will be missed but will always hold a special place in the Red Bull family,” said RB Team Principal Laurent Mekies when announcing Ricciardo’s departure.

“I would also like to take this opportunity to welcome Liam. “He knows the team well already. He raced for us last season and coped well in difficult circumstances, so it will be a natural transition. It’s great to see young talent from the Red Bull family taking the next step. We’re looking forward to putting our heads down and focusing on the rest of the season together.”

Coming to RB was a new dream for Daniel

Ricciardo had lost his seat at McLaren at the end of the 2022 seasonso becoming a regular driver for the then-called AlphaTauri was a new chapter in his history in Formula 1, always seeking his return to Red Bull, the team where he experienced his best moment in the top category of professional motor racing.

But despite this, the times at RB were not easy for Ricciardo, since at the beginning In his debut, he suffered a fractured wrist, which kept him out of five races and he was temporarily replaced by Liam Wilson, who took advantage of the opportunity to demonstrate his talent, level and worth.

Daniel returned for the United States Grand Prix and completed the season and he continued with the Faenza team for the current campaign, but his performance this year was not as expected and the top offices at RB decided to take a different path to the Australian.

The winner of eight grand prix in his career in Formula 1, was surpassed due to the performance of his teammate, the Japanese Yuki Tsunoda, who defeated him 13 to 8 in classifications and points, adding 22 in total against Ricciardo’s 12.
