Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus (CAPAC) Chair Rep. Judy Chu joined Haiti Caucus Co-Chairs Reps. Ayanna Pressley, Yvette D. Clarke, and Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick, Congressional Black Caucus Chair Steven Horsford, and Congressional Hispanic Caucus (CHC) Chair Nanette Barragán in a statement by Donald Trump against Haitian, Latino, and Asian immigrants:

“We, the members of the Congressional Black Caucus, the Congressional Hispanic Caucus, and the Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus, We stand together to condemn the false, hateful and dangerous rhetoric directed at Haitian immigrants in Springfield, Ohio”.

“These shameful lies, perpetrated by Donald Trump, Senator JD Vance and the Republicans, are not only rooted in xenophobia and racism, “They are also the latest attempt by Republicans to sow division and fear within our communities and divert attention from their deeply unpopular agenda,” they said.

In the debate between Kamala Harris and Donald Trump, the Republican candidate’s claim that Haitian migrants in Springfield, Ohio, were eating pets came to light. Although Trump’s statement provoked incredulous laughter from his rival for the US presidency, several Republicans have relied on this conspiracy theory to argue in favor of greater immigration restrictions.

In response to this, in a joint statement, It was mentioned that: “These lies target some of the most vulnerable among us.: individuals and families fleeing violence, instability and humanitarian crises in search of a better life.”

“Our Haitian neighbors, including our Latino and Asian families, who have come to the United States in search of safety and opportunity, and the contributions they make to our cultural and economic fabric are endless. Demonizing and dehumanizing them with baseless accusations puts their lives at risk and is an affront to everything we stand for as a nation.”, he mentions.

Because of this environment, they charge that these lies have had very real consequences, arguing that Haitian families in Springfield and across the country live in fear, facing harassment and bomb threats.

“Children lie awake at night not knowing if they will be safe in the morning and parents are consumed with worry for their babies’ safety. We’ve seen this tired old playbook before and we won’t stand for it… If you come for one of us, you come for all of us,” they say.
