Harris' Arizona campaign office was damaged by gunfire

Shots were fired at Vice President and Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris’ campaign office in Tempe, Arizona, on Monday. but no one was hurt, his campaign confirmed.

The incident occurred just days before Harris visits Arizona as part of her campaign for the presidency.

“We can confirm that on 9/23/24, what appears to be gunshot damage was discovered at… a DNC campaign office,” Tempe police said in a statement to NBC News on Tuesday.

Tempe police said officers responded Monday after calls from workers and that They observed what appeared to be gunshots through the front windows of the office shared by Arizona Democratic Party staff members, the Harris campaign, and the Democratic Senate and House campaigns to boost voter turnout in the election.

“There was no one inside the office during the overnight hours, but this raises concerns about the safety of those who work in that building, as well as those nearby,” public information officer Sgt. Ryan Cook said in a statement Tuesday.

“We are grateful to the Tempe Police for arriving on the scene quickly and are fortunate that no one was present or injured,” said Sean McEnerneycoordinated campaign manager for the Arizona Democratic Party.

The apparent shooting marks the second incident of criminal damage at that office in recent weeks, According to Tempe police, who said that shortly after midnight on Sept. 16, the front windows of the office were hit with what appeared to be a BB or pellet gun.

Harris is scheduled to make a campaign stop in the key state on Friday, multiple outlets reported.

The Arizona Supreme Court ruled Friday that it will allow nearly 100,000 people who registered to vote in the past 20 years to retain the right to vote with a completed ballot after a lawsuit stemming from a flaw raised concerns.

Political threats have become part of the presidential election cyclewith two assassination attempts against former President Trump and violent rhetoric.

Congress on Tuesday approved a bipartisan measure to strengthen security for presidential candidates that is awaiting President Joe Biden’s signature.
