Two military personnel were injured this Saturday after a confrontation with organized crime in Culiacán, capital of Sinaloaa state in northwestern Mexico that is experiencing a wave of violence due to a conflict between cells of the Sinaloa Cartel following the capture of one of its founders, Ismael ‘El Mayo’ Zambada.

The governor of Sinaloa, Rubén Rocha Moya, released this information through X, while reporting the arrest of a subject and the killing of three armed civilians.

According to Rocha Moya, “in the Tres Ríos Urban Development area, in the city of Culiacán, municipal police officers who were on patrol were attacked by armed civilians.”

He explained that this led authorities from all three levels of government to implement a joint operation, in which elements of the civil police and the Armed Forces participated, which also resulted in the release of six adults and a minor, after the alleged members of organized crime took refuge in their property.

“Two members of the Mexican Army were injured and were taken to receive medical attention,” the statement said.

The governor of Sinaloa also assured that “The situation is under control. However, citizens are asked to avoid frequenting that area.as the authorities continue to carry out the legal investigation procedures.”

Citizens reported on social media about the mobilization and the confrontation, where military elements can even be seen inside a shopping mall, as well as the tension that was generated at the site among the residents.

The conflict reached a residential area called ‘Depas Clamont’, amid the presence of air support and armed vehicles on the ground.

At this site, soldiers surrounded the complex, exchanged fire with suspected hitmen and even Grenade explosions and smoke were documented from the roof of one of the buildings.

Since September 9, Sinaloa has been plunged into a wave of violence that after 12 days has already resulted in more than 60 murders, 29 confrontations, the confiscation of 120 firearms, 75 vehicles and more than 40 arrests of alleged members of organized crime.

Among these arrests, the most notable was that of Mario Alexander Gámez Cuevas, known as ‘El Piyi’, alleged leader of hitmen related to the Sinaloa Cartel faction, Los Chapitos or Chapiza.

This Saturday, it was reported that 600 new military elements were deployed to strengthen the operational actions already carried out by military personnel in the state, in order to inhibit the activities of organized crime, which already had the presence of 1,600 military elements.
