Pro-Iranian armed groups that make up the so-called Islamic Resistance in Iraq claimed responsibility on Sunday (22.09.2024) for drone attacks against Israel.

“Islamic Resistance fighters in Iraq targeted a strategic target on Sunday morning in our occupied territories, using drones,” said a statement posted on Telegram.

The Islamic Resistance in Iraq is a coalition of pro-Iranian armed groups that claims to act “in resistance to the occupation,” referring to Israel, and “in support of the people in Gaza.”

At night, “Several suspicious flying objects” approached Israel from Iraqthe Israeli military said, adding that they were intercepted and that no injuries were reported.

These attacks come amid a tense regional context fuelled by the conflict in Gaza, which has been going on for almost a year.
