LAFC draws after Vela's introduction, Galaxy falls to Timbers

What was shaping up to be a packed night in Los Angeles after the presentation of Carlos Vela on his return to LAFC was overshadowed by the rival on duty: Austin FC, who prevented the Black & Gold from taking the win and rounding off the evening.

On the other hand, the Galaxy could not take advantage of the stumble of the other Los Angeles team to move away from the leadership of the Western Conference MLSsince they lost against the Portland Timbers.

Before the match at the BMO Stadium everything was jubilation and merriment, with the presence of the prodigal son Carlos Vela, who He returned to the team after finishing his contract last year and after 9 months of absence.

“The Bomber” returned home and once again felt that great communion he had with his fans since the team’s appearance in the MLS, since he was their first signing and their first franchise player, something that he corresponded with goals, talent and championships.

However, the event was overshadowed by Austin FC and Jáder Obrianspecifically, whoHe was not the author of the goal that put the locals against the wall.

In stoppage time of the first half, Obrian appeared in the centre of the area to finish off an assist from Bukari at the height of the penalty spot and beat the 2018 World Cup winner in Russia goalkeeper Hugo Lloris and temporarily put the score at 1-0.

LAFC was going to make the loss come true and went after their opponent, finding the equalizer in the 62nd minute, through David Martinez, who entered the field two minutes earlier and He scored the equaliser on the first ball he touchedon the edge of the penalty area.

The scoreboard remained unchanged and Carlos Vela watched from the stands as his team tied the game, which lost the opportunity to get closer to the Galaxy, leader of the West.

Galaxy suffers third away loss

Meanwhile, Almost at the same time, but in Portland, the Galaxy fell to the Timbers in what was their third consecutive defeat playing away from home, after losing in the Leagues Cup against the Seattle Sounders and in the MLS against St. Louis City and the Timbers.

Despite beating LAFC in El Tráfico at Dignity Health Sports Park last weekend, the Los Angeles team has a hard time getting good results away from home and against the Timbers it was no exception, as they were defeated 4-2.

Jonathan Rodriguez and Evander Da Silva Ferreira scored in the 17th and 39th minutes, respectively, to make it 2-0, which seemed to be a dead rubber for the Galaxy; however, before the first-half whistle blew, Gabriel Pec scored, giving the Los Angeles team hope.

But in the second half, Ferreira scored his double just 6 minutes into the game and once again put the Galaxy against the tide. They still managed to score the second goal at 58′, through Joseph Paintsil, but it was not enough and, as if that were not enough, at 80′ Felipe Mora sealed the score by scoring the fourth for his team and sealing the final score of 4-2.

With these resultsthe fight for the leadership of the Western Conference became complicated for the Los Angeles teamssince a new actor appeared, the Real Salt Lakewho beat FC Dallas 3-2 and moved into second place with 50 points, one more than LAFC, who dropped to third place with 49 points; the Galaxy remains at the topalthough only by 5 points, since they have 55.
