AMLO challenges García Luna to present evidence of his alleged links to drug trafficking

The President of Mexico, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, challenged former Mexican Public Security Secretary Genaro García Luna to present evidence of the alleged links between the Mexican president and drug trafficking.

“A man who has dedicated himself to that, among other things, for more than 30 years since 1989 to date, How could he not know everything about me if it was his job and I was an opponent?“Of course he was spying on me!” he says.

“So he writes that there is evidence, there are videos, there are calls, there are audios, it is very simple, that he makes them known, he has everything, that is why it is very important.and this is a message, a major lesson for young people, it is very important to have moral authority and not establish relationships of complicity with anyone if you are going to work for the benefit of the people,” he said.

From the National Palace in Mexico City, López Obrador responded to the letter released by García Luna’s lawyers, which indicates that there are alleged links with drug trafficking and that they are allegedly based on revelations also made in a letter by Ismael ‘El Mayo’ Zambada after his capture.

The Mexican president insisted on challenging Genaro García Luna to present evidence and request help from the media, journalists or US agencies that dealt with him when he led the “war on drugs” during the presidency of Felipe Calderón (2006-2012).

“For me, my decades-long career as a leader, I have suffered many accusations and they have not been able to, so it is very simple, that he (García Luna) present the evidence, that he speak with Anabel (Hernández) If he does not have the journalist, but so that he does not fail, he should ask his friends at the DEA for the information, which he should ask his lawyers for. Look for Tim Goldentwo-time Pulitzer Prize winner, that goes with the editors of the New York Times, with the Washington Post And so that it does not fail, let it go to the State Department of the United States government,” he said.

“It is just a matter of explaining that they are very desperate and that they are the bosses, the main hawks, they are very ungrateful because they leave García Luna alone, The first one who should be defending is (Felipe) CalderónIf he is innocent as he says, why doesn’t Calderón defend him? Then those who awarded him the prize, the United States Embassy in Mexico, the DEA, of course the State Department, the Department of Justice in the United States,” he said.

“They are going to waste their time, they are going to waste their time because we have been facing mafias for many years.and I repeat, the lesson is for young people to resist temptations, politics and power is humility, it is an apostolate and one has to act with principles and ideals if not they will destroy one completely,” he said.

The Mexican chief executive ruled out any action against García Luna, who was found guilty in February 2023 of five drug-related charges, for which he could receive a maximum sentence of life imprisonment on October 9.
