How much money do teams earn for playing and advancing to the next round in the Champions League?

The UEFA Champions League will start this Tuesday with the new format and tens of millions of dollars in prize money. More than $100 million could be earned by the team that ends up as champion.

In the new “League” format of the Champions League, each of the 36 participants will receive $20.7 million in the group stage.

For each victory the teams obtain, they will receive $2.3 million dollars. and for a draw they get $779,000. This year the teams will play eight matches in the first phase.

Depending on the position the teams obtain in the classification table, they will receive a bonus amount.

First place will get $11 million, $10.6 for second place and $10 for third place. Prizes range up to $306,000 for last place.

Teams that advance directly to the round of 16 (1 to 8) will receive $2.2 million dollars and those that qualify through the play-offs (9 to 16) will receive $1.11 million dollars.

From the round of 16 onwards, each round advancement means more than $10 million of dollars. $11.2 for those who reach the round of 16, $13.9 for reaching the round of 16, $16.6 for reaching the semi-finals and the two semi-finalists receive $20.5.

The champion receives $7.2 million and $4.4 million for qualifying for the European Super Cup. If they win the European Super Cup, an additional $1.1 million will be awarded.

In total, a team that qualifies first and, if it becomes champion, can earn more than $100 million in this edition of the Champions League. A team that is eliminated and does not achieve victories can earn just over $20 million.
