Hirving “Chucky” Lozano already has a coach at San Diego FC

San Diego FC’s board of directors announced on Monday that Mikey Varas will be its head coach starting in 2025 for what will be its first season in Major League Soccer in which they will have the Mexican forward Hirving “Chucky” Lozano as its main star.

The interim coach of the United States, who also has extensive experience in the youth categories of the American team, will be in charge of leading the debuting team that hopes to fight from its first steps.

“We believe Mikey is the perfect choice to lead San Diego FC as the club’s first head coach as we prepare for our inaugural season.”said Mohamd Mansour, owner of San Diego FC in a statement released this Monday.

San Diego FC’s announcement on social media about the signing of Mikey Varas showcases the American coach’s achievements throughout his career.

Mikey Varas’ name was one of several that the management of the team that is just beginning its history was considering, and the 41-year-old coach’s experience in player development ended up being the determining factor in his selection.

San Diego FC’s new head coach, Mikey Varas, gave his first words in his position in a video published on his new club’s official accounts, in which he expressed his desire to take on this challenge in his career and begin writing the club’s history starting next season in the MLS.

“I look forward to working with the team and the community to build a winning culture from the ground up. I will give my all for this club and the people of San Diego.”commented the strategist who will assume the main position at the head of a club for the first time in his career.

Among his experiences in American soccer, the coach has stints at Dallas FC as an assistant coach, as well as with the United States U-20 team and, more recently, an interim position with the senior team after the departure of Gregg Berhalter and before Mauricio Pochettino was announced.
