Dani Carvajal, now one of Real Madrid’s captains, will be looking to win his seventh Champions League title starting this Tuesday. This is something that only one Madrid player was able to achieve: Paco Gento.

“It’s clear that it would be an unbeatable challenge. I still have a few years left to try to achieve that goal, but why not dream that it will be this year,” he said at a press conference.

The Spaniard admitted that winning the Ballon d’Or would be a dream, although he is more than happy with the nomination after his great seasons in the Champions League and the European Championship.

“Once last season was over I could say that in terms of data and titles it has been one of the best of my career, “practically unbeatable. I am very happy about it, hence the nomination for the Ballon d’Or. I would dream of winning the award but just being there is a resounding success for me,” he admitted.

Carvajal is not closing the door on renewing his contract with Real Madrid

Dani Carvajal is one of the players with the longest tenure at the club and his contract ends this year. Although the player admits that he wants to stay, he knows that the decision is up to Florentino Pérez.

“My idea is clear, it is to stay here as long as possible but being realistic and knowing what I can contribute to the club. The moment when I don’t see myself at a sufficient level to continue in the squad, I will step aside. That is the only criterion I always base myself on when the club wants to count on my services,” he said.

“Here the club is in charge, the president is the one who has to plan the squads. The club’s conditions for players of a certain age are to renew year after year and I have no problem with that as long as my level is good enough to win titles.”

Real Madrid will debut this Tuesday against Stuttgart at the Santiago Bernabéu in search of the sixteenth Champions League and with Kylian Mbappé aiming for his first Champions Cup.
