Air raid sirens sounded early Sunday morning (15.09.2024) in central Israel, following the arrival of A ballistic missile shot from Yementhe Israeli army confirmed in a statement.

Israel’s Magen David Amon emergency service said its paramedics were treating about five people, including women, who were lightly injured on their way to shelters.

The Israeli army reported, however, that a missile fired from Yemen crossed central Israel on Sunday and “fell in an open area”.

Israeli army does not report injured

“A ground-to-ground missile was identified crossing into central Israel from the east and landed in an open area. No injuries were reported,” the report said.

“The missile was fired from Yemen,” it added in a later statement sent shortly before 7:00 am (0400 GMT).

Yemen’s Houthi rebels have been launching attacks against Israel and their interests in what they say is solidarity with Palestinians during the ongoing war in Gaza between Israel and Hamas, a group considered a terrorist group by the European Union and other countries.

Since November, the Houthis have launched a wave of missile and drone attacks against Israeli-linked vessels in the Gulf of Aden and the Red Sea. And in July, they carried out a drone attack on Tel Aviv that killed an Israeli civilian.

In response, Israeli warplanes bombed the Yemeni port of Hodeidacontrolled by the Houthis, and a rebel official then promised to “respond to escalation with escalation”.
