Mexican football has had successes and failures in its signings. The UNAM Pumas signed in 2021 Christian Battocchioa player with a respected career. However, the Italian left the club without much fanfare and He is currently struggling to stay active, but outside the elite.

Cristian Battocchio arrived at the UNAM Pumas with a great track record and in exchange for little more than $2 million dollars. But on the field he did not make good use of his career or the financial effort made to sign him.

The 32-year-old left the club in 2022 after his contract expired. Following that transaction, Cristian Battocchio ventured to play in Greece with Volos NPS, then in Israel with Ness Ziona, India with Chennaiyin FC and has now returned to Italy.

However, the veteran midfielder is no longer in the elite of football. He is currently a player of The Monopoli Sports Societya club in Serie C in Italy. Battocchio has already played 8 matches in this club, in which he has been able to compete 591 times. However, The former Pumas de la UNAM player has not contributed any goals or assists.

At times, Battoccio’s move to the Pumas of UNAM represented an opportunity for the Italian player to relaunch his career. But on the contrary, The European footballer ended up burying his chances of continuing to play in high-level leagues.

Cristian Battocchio’s failure at Pumas

Those from Pedregal had good intentions with the signing of Cristian Battocchio. The Italian footballer had played in clubs such as Udinese, Watford and even Stade Brestois in France. But after playing for the French team, Battocchio left for Japan with Tokushima Vortis.

The Italian midfielder had also played for his country’s under-21 and under-20 teams. His credentials were promising, but his international experience was not enough to leave his mark on Liga MX.

Cristian Battocchio played 20 games with the UNAM Pumas jersey. During that number of matches and almost 900 minutes played, the Italian could only contribute assistance for the Mexican cause. Patience did not last long for the Aztec leadership and, two years after his departure, Battocchio gives his last touches of quality in Serie C.
