Mexican Saúl ‘Canelo’ Álvarez said on Friday that he is only thinking about winning by knockout this Saturday against Puerto Rican Edgar Berlanga.

“I’m going to get on there tomorrow to knock out”said the World Boxing Association, World Boxing Council and World Boxing Organization super middleweight champion.

With 61 wins, 39 before time, 2 losses and 2 draws, Álvarez will put his titles on the line against Berlanga, who at the same time promised to leave him on the canvas in the sixth round.

In a fight that seeks to revive the historic rivalry between Mexican and Puerto Rican boxers, Alvarez will arrive at the fight at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas with a four-fight winning streak and a 19-year career in which no one has knocked him down.

The background of Canelo Alvarez vs. Puerto Rican boxers

Berlanga will have the difficult task of taking away the undefeated record over Puerto Rican boxers.Aúl Álvarez previously faced José Miguel Cotto (2010) and Kermit Citrón (2011)whom he knocked out and in 2015 he won a unanimous decision against the legend Miguel Cotto, from whom he took the World Boxing Council middleweight championship and gave him a victory that validated him as a star of world boxing.

For his part, Edgar Berlanga is confident that he can knock out Canelo Álvarez and put himself on the world boxing map, despite not having the support of experts for this fight.

“Knockout; knockout and then rematch. And in the rematch I take him to New York. We are taking the rematch to New York on the weekend of Puerto Rican Day,” this after this Saturday’s fight is on Mexican Independence Day.

The Puerto Rican says he wants to be the face of boxing and recognizes that this is the opportunity to seal it.

“I could be the face of Puerto Rican boxing after Saturday night,” Berlanga said: “I have wanted this for many years and now it is my turn to do it.”
