Biden and Kamala Harris celebrate achievements of the Hispanic community

This January 15th marks Hispanic Heritage Month and President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris are ready to celebrate the achievements of this community, as well as remembering the importance of its contributions to the United States.

Demographic and economic data reveal the importance of Hispanics or Latinos in the U.S.such as 19% of the population, as well as offering 36 million possible votes, in addition to growing from $3.2 trillion dollars in 2021 to $3.6 trillion dollars in 2022, that is, if they were an independent country, Latinos in the US would be the fifth largest economy in the world.

In that context, On Wednesday, September 18, President Biden and First Lady Dr. Jill Biden will host a reception at the White House “to celebrate the achievements and contributions of the Latino community in the United States,” he told this newspaper.

President Biden and Vice President Harris will attend other Hispanic Heritage Month-related events, including the Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute (CHCI) Conference.

On Wednesday, the 18th, Vice President Harris will address the CHCI conference, while on Thursday, President Biden will address the institute’s Annual Awards Gala.

“The dedicated work and historic accomplishments of President Biden and Vice President Harris speak to the power of perseverance, and their commitment to using public service to meet the needs of families reflects a core value of leadership programs at CHCI,” said Marco A. Davis, CHCI President and CEO.

The Biden Administration recalled that the events are part of efforts focused on Latinos.

“These engagements are part of the Biden-Harris Administration’s ongoing efforts to engage with the Latino community, including hosting Diaspora Days at the White House, hosting Latino film screenings at the White House, welcoming local Latino radio stations to broadcast from the White House, holding weekly messaging calls with Latino stakeholders, and hosting Spanish-language briefings for Latino journalists and stakeholders,” the White House told this newspaper.

The Biden-Harris Administration defended the achievements of its programs and policies in favor of the Latino population, considering that “it has experienced a strong economic recovery.”

“[Eso] includes reducing the Latino unemployment rate to the lowest rate on record; supporting Hispanic small business owners, with business ownership growing at the fastest pace in 30 years,” it was recalled.

This newspaper has recorded the progress in these areas, including reports highlighting the importance of Latino achievements, such as the Stanford Graduate School of Business, which in 2022 revealed that “no sector promises to convert initial financing into GDP growth like Latino-owned businesses (LOBs).”

“Latino entrepreneurs are starting small businesses faster than the rest of the population “start-ups are becoming a growing part of the total U.S. market every day,” it said. “If those companies were to grow as fast as the U.S. average, they could add $1.4 trillion to the U.S. economy.”

Help for families

The Biden-Harris Administration’s policies also highlight achievements to support the economy of Latino families, including improving health care.

Latinos in the Cabinet

President Biden defended his strategy of creating “a federal government that reflects the diversity of the United States,” which is why he appointed four Latinos to key positions in the Cabinet.

The team includes Xavier Becerra, Secretary of Health and Human Services; Miguel Cardona, Secretary of Education; Alejandro Mayorkas, Secretary of Homeland Security; and Isabel Guzmán, Administrator of the Small Business Administration.

There are other senior officials and advisers in the White House and other agencies.
