When the murder of Eliseo Imperial Castroalias “Cheyo Anthrax”his death was said to be a major blow to the Sinaloa Cartelspecifically to the group led by Ismael “El Mayo” Zambada.
The criminal killed on a highway in Culiacán was not only the last living member of the bloodthirsty armed group known as “Los Ántrax,” but he was also the nephew of “El Mayo.”
However, no one could imagine that It was Zambada García himself who ordered his deathand the reason is that he was allegedly collecting debts in his uncle’s name for his own benefit.
This was revealed by the US Attorney Breon Peace, in a document sent to Judge Brian M. Cogan of the Eastern District of New York, in which he confirmed 17 charges against the former leader of the Sinaloa Cartel, including the murder of his own nephew.
“Just a few months ago, The accused ordered the murder of his nephewafter learning that he was collecting debts supposedly on behalf of the accused for his own benefit and without permission,” the document states.
“Imperial Castro was found dead in a car on the side of the road in Culiacán where he was ambushed in May of this year,” the Prosecutor’s Office added.
How “Cheyo Anthrax” died
Eliseo Imperial was traveling in a pickup truck on the Mexico 15 International Highway, at the southern exit of the city of Culiacán, when he began to be chased by two vehicles.
According to Mexican authorities, the hitmen forced “Cheyo Ántrax” to stop. Immediately, the subjects got out of their vehicles to go to the nephew of “El Mayo” and They fired multiple rifle bursts, apparently “goat horn”.
The 40-year-old drug trafficker was the last leader of the criminal cell “Los Ántrax,” an armed wing of “El Mayo” that was in charge of providing security to the family of the famous drug lord and committing murders in his name.
Due to his participation in said criminal group, He was blacklisted by the United States in 2014when he was indicted by the Southern District of California on drug trafficking and money laundering charges.
He was subsequently sanctioned by the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) on September 23, 2016. “Eliseo Imperial Castro is being designated for materially assisting, supporting, providing services to, and/or acting on behalf of his uncle, Ismael Zambada García, and/or the Sinaloa Cartel,” the document reads.
