The head of US diplomacy, Antony Blinken, announced this Tuesday (10.09.2024) during a visit to the United Kingdom that Iran supplied missiles to Russia for use in Ukraine “in the coming weeks” and announced new sanctions against the Tehran government.

“Russia has received deliveries of these ballistic missiles and will probably use them within a few weeks in Ukraine against the Ukrainians.“U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken said at a joint news conference with Lammy in a room at the British Foreign Office in London.

“The United States will announce more sanctions on Iran laterincluding additional measures on Iran Air. We expect allies and partners to announce their own measures on Iran as well,” the US top diplomat added.

Blinken and Lammy met in the British capital on Tuesday to launch the so-called UK-US Strategic Dialogue, an annual event with which they hope to strengthen bilateral collaboration.

The US has warned the Iranian regime that providing ballistic missiles to Moscow for use in Ukraine would “constitute a dramatic escalation” of the Ukrainian crisis.

Iran’s ballistic missile system, which has a maximum range of 120 kilometers, would allow Russia to target its arsenal further from the front line.

Lammy announced at the press conference that he and his US colleague They will travel together to kyiv to express support for Ukrainein what will be the first joint visit in more than a decade.

Blinken added that “it is a critical moment” for the ex-Soviet republic, “in the midst of an intense fighting season this fall, with Russia escalating.”

“We see that (Moscow) is increasing its attacks against cities, against people.particularly targeting energy infrastructure and electricity, all before the coldest months,” he said.

Blinken and Lammy met ahead of British Prime Minister Keir Starmer’s talks with US President Joe Biden in Washington on Friday.
