The Mexican team will face New Zealand this Saturday, September 7. This match will be held in the Rose Bowl in Los Angeles, California, United StatesJavier Aguirre’s debut is a match with a lot to lose and little to gain.

The “Vasco” will begin his process against the New Zealand team. Historically, New Zealand has been a difficult rival for the Mexican team.

In history, El Tri has only lost one match against New Zealand. Both teams have faced each other on seven occasions. The only defeat was precisely the first duel between the two in 1980.

This was a match that El Tri played in the middle of a tour of Oceania. The preparation was for the 1982 World Cup, World Cup that New Zealand went toThe Mexican team was initially going to play against Australia, but changes in plans put them against the New Zealand team. The “Kiwis” won that match 4-0.

However, after that match, Mexico has not let up in its encounters against this rival. After that match, both teams have faced each other six more times and Mexico has won all the games.

The matches between New Zealand and Mexico

Like the match on Saturday, September 7, most of the matches in this history have been friendly matches. These two teams have faced each other 4 times in duels of this type: 4-0 defeat (1980), 0-2 victory (2010), 3-0 thrashing (2011) and an agonizing 1-2 victory (2016).

In addition to friendly matches, Mexico and New Zealand have faced each other 3 times in official competitions with a full house of Mexican victories: 2-0 and 2-4 in the 2014 World Cup play-offs in Brazil and 2-1 in the 2017 Confederations Cup in Russia.

This Saturday the eighth match between both teams will be played. Javier Aguirre hopes to start this new process on the right foot, otherwise, New Zealand could achieve another historic result or at least break a drawpositive endings that have not been achieved for more than 40 years.
