The state of Guanajuato is one of the most violent regions in Mexico due to the presence of two dangerous criminal organizations: The Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG) and the Santa Rosa de Lima Cartel.
However, it seems that a new drug war is approaching in that entity, since the Sinaloa Cartel has just announced its presence through a video in which several of its members can be seen.
In the images they appear 10 heavily armed men in tactical clothingsending a message to the population of Guanajuato, specifically to those who live in the municipality of San José Iturbide.
Ironically, in this announcement they point out that they came to “clean” the area of criminals such as thieves and kidnappers, whose leaders they claim to have already identified.
They also said they were targeting criminals who operate independently, who were invited to “align” but did not want to.
“We, the Sinaloa Cartel, We have always been here, we have been working for years”One of the gunmen said, adding that they had not carried out any criminal activities in the area because they did not have “permission” from their bosses.
Although the Sinaloa Cartel had not made its presence evident in Guanajuato, the organization Lantia Consultores points out that, at least since 2020, said criminal group has a presence in the state through alliances with local groups.
Meanwhile, in November 2023, authorities confirmed the presence of three criminal groups in Guanajuato. “We have the three most important ones, the Jalisco Cartel, the Santa Rosa Cartel, and the Sinaloa Cartel. And other smaller ones,” said Enrique García Jaramillo, commander of the XVI Military Zone.
