Ernest Anthony Gonzales II, representative for the 23rd congressional district of Texas, anticipated that the Republicans’ own mistakes will lead them to lose the majority in the House in November.

Present at the Texas Tribune Festival, The 43-year-old former military man and conservative politician anticipated what he sees as a painful lesson for his party.

“What frustrates me is that I firmly believe that House Republicans are going to lose the majority, and we’re going to lose it because of our own fault“, he said.

Recently, Tony Gonzales, as he is popularly known, was censured by Republicans after he voted in favor of legislation promoting gun safety and protecting same-sex marriage.

However, he anticipates that complicated times are looming in politics and that it would be best to close ranks to address the demands of citizens rather than promote divisionism.

“I think dark times are coming and I think we need to have a firm hand that allows us to come together and focus on achieving real results.“, he warned.

From Gonzales’ perspective, it is necessary for his party to pause to answer some questions posed by citizens, especially during election times.

“We’re going to be the party that responds to the needs of real people. Are we going to have these conservative values that make people’s lives better? Or are we going to be the party of rhetoric?” he mused.

The Republican also stressed that his Democratic rivals are also failing to connect with citizens.which is an untapped advantage among conservatives.

“They haven’t evolved to the point of asking, ‘How do I win a race? How do I get a message out to the general population, and not just my base? ’” he said.

It should be noted that, for months, Tony Gonzales’ comments have begun to bother several of his Republican colleagues, such as Matt Gaetz, representative for Florida, whom he accused of allegedly “paying minors to have sex with them at drug parties.”

However, the complaint was not widely reported and only generated suspicion within the Republican Party.
