The great moments that the teams experienced of Mexican football in the Copa Libertadores will not happen again in accordance with the official announcement made by FIFA regarding the prohibition of teams from another confederation participate in events in another football area.

The above arises from the information released by columnist David Medrano, where he stated that the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) issued a statement prohibiting teams from participating in tournaments other than their own football zone because the Arab teams put pressure on UEFA at any cost to participate in the European Cups.

The pressure from the Arab teams was so great that FIFA had to intervene to prevent Arab teams from participating in the Asian cups and from being able to participate in the Champions League or the Euro League, the two flagships of Old Continent football in terms of domestic tournaments.

In this way and to avoid all kinds of future problems, FIFA implemented this decision that will prevent Liga MX teams from being able to aspire to the continental tournament, They will now have to make do with CONCACAF competitions, such as the Concachampions, the CONCACAF Champions League, as well as the Leagues Cup, a recently created tournament between teams from Major League Soccer (MLS) and Liga MX.

In this way, the 18 editions in which Mexican teams participated starting in 1998, after the Venezuelan teams arranged their participation with the Aztec squads, only on three occasions did the teams from the Liga MX were able to reach the final as happened with Cruz Azul in 2001, Guadalajara in 2010 and Tigres in 2015.

As will be remembered in 2001 Cruz Azul perhaps had the most memorable participation of the Mexican teams due to the impact generated by their matches after advancing to the first phase in a group consisting of Sao Caetano from Brazil, Defensor Sporting from Uruguay and Olmedo from Ecuador.

After that, they eliminated Cerro Porteño from Paraguay, River Plate from Argentina, Rosario Central and finally the grand final against Boca Juniors where they lost the title on penalties after the Argentines won 0-1 in a packed Estadio Azteca with a goal by Marcelo Delgado and later lost to the Mexican squad with a goal by Francisco Palencia that sent the match to penalties.

There Boca took the victory when Chilean Pablo Galdames, Julio César Pinheiro and José Alberto Hernández missed their shots, declaring the defeat of the Mexican team in the first participation of the Aztec team. in a continental final with epic performances by a team led by Francisco Palencia.

After that, Chivas lost to Inter de Porto Alegre in 2010 and Tigres in 2015 against River Plate in a duel full of controversy where in the end the Mexican team won 3-0 at the Monumental stadium, after a 0-0 draw in Monterrey.

So now these stories will not be repeated again, especially after this news confirms the version released a year ago by CONCACAF President Victor Montagliani, who had said that after asking for FIFA’s point of view he had received a letter rejecting the Mexican participation in the most prestigious South American club tournament.
