kyiv wakes up to another massive drone and missile attack

kyiv woke up this Monday with massive explosions the interceptions of Russian missiles and drones by Ukrainian anti-aircraft defenses, in a new major Russian attack on Ukraine’s capital that sent residents into bomb shelters.

Anti-aircraft alarms announcing the possible arrival of missiles and drones were also activated in the rest of the country.

The barrage of drones and missiles against kyiv may have been aimed at other cities, the Associated Press said.

“The missile attack on kyiv continues. Anti-aircraft defences have been activated in the city,” “The kyiv Military Administration wrote on its Telegram account shortly after 5:30 a.m. local time, which had reported shortly before the first interceptions and that ballistic and cruise missiles were heading towards the capital.

According to the Kyiv administration and the Kyiv City Hall, fragments of intercepted missiles or drones have fallen in the Golosivski, Sviatoshinsky, Dnirkovski and Shevchenko districts of the capital. “Information about damage and casualties is being established,” the kyiv military administration said.

Anti-aircraft units shot down around 20 ballistic and cruise missiles launched at kyiv, Reuters reported, citing Ukrainian military sources.

Electrical infrastructure was damaged

A thermal power generation infrastructure has been damaged in the Golosivski district, according to kyiv Mayor Vitali Klichko.

This new major attack on the capital comes a week after Russia attacked 15 of Ukraine’s 24 regionsincluding the one in kyiv, with more than 200 missiles and drones causing severe damage to the Ukrainian electrical system, forcing the authorities to reintroduce daily power cuts.
