The McLaren team confirmed its great moment in the classification of the Italian Grand Prix by achieving first and second place in this Sunday’s start in Monza thanks to the Pole Position achieved by Lando Norris who will be escorted by his partner, Oscar Piastri.

For the second week in a row, the British driver was the dominant driver with a time of 1:19.327 thousandths, ahead of the Australian Piastri who was 109 thousandths behind. Third place went to the British driver of Mercedes, George Russell, who finished the session 113 thousandths behind.

Lando Norris, 24, will be looking to maintain the dominance he showed last week at the Dutch Grand Prix where he claimed his second F1 victory. The Briton will try to further close the gap on Max Verstappen in the drivers’ standings, which now stands at 70 points.

This is how the Italian Grand Prix, round number 15 of the 2024 Formula 1 calendar, ended.

“Checo” Pérez will start from eighth

This Saturday’s session in Monza was not the most productive for the Red Bull team, which had its two drivers falling behind in the classification and with the Mexican Sergio “Checo” Perez starting from eighth place, one less than his teammate, the Dutchman Max Verstappen.

The Guadalajara native, who finished sixth in the Dutch Grand Prix, showed some improvements compared to the free practice sessions in Italy and ended up finishing eighth, from where he will start with the firm objective of getting into the fight for the top spots.

For his part, the three-time F1 world champion and current leader of the 2024 standings did not perform as expected this Saturday and will also have a tough task in trying to close the gap with the McLaren drivers, Red Bull’s rival to beat at the Italian Grand Prix.

Franco Colapinto, from position 18

For his part, the Argentinean who is making his debut as a Formula 1 driver, Franco Colapinto, will start from 18th place after his first qualifying session in which he was unable to get past Q1, being relegated to the lower part of the grid for this Italian Grand Prix.

After a pair of sessions on Friday in which he finished 17th, the South American driver of the Williams Racing team showed improvements in the final free practice on Saturday but was unable to repeat his performance in qualifying, ending up in a rather difficult position.

Franco Colapinto, 21, was named this week as the successor to American Logan Sargeant in the British team with the aim of being able to fight for points again, a mission that will be very difficult for the Argentine on Sunday.
