Angelina Jolie has once again proven her humility, as well as her acting ability, by recently earning acclaim for her portrayal of Maria Callas in the biopic “Maria.”

The actress received a standing ovation at the Venice Film Festival, where the film had its premiere. However, the event not only highlighted her performance, but also a touching gesture that captured the attention of those present. During the festival, Jolie showed her great humanity by kneeling down to greet and talk with Italian writer Pasqualino Esposito.

Despite being on a red carpet and wearing her sophisticated dress, Jolie seemed disinterested in protocol and approached Esposito with empathy, who suffers from osteogenesis imperfecta, a disease that affects the bones and forces him to use a special wheelchair. This gesture of respect and consideration not only touched Esposito, but also left a lasting impression on the festival-goers.

“She is a very good person, she is wonderful. Few people are like her”Esposito is heard saying to the camera in reference to Jolie.

Moved to tears

Jolie received an emotional eight-minute standing ovation at the Venice Film Festival for her portrayal of Maria Callas in the film “Maria.” The premiere, held at the prestigious Sala Grande Theater on August 29, 2024, showed Jolie visibly moved as the audience enthusiastically applauded her performance.

The acclaimed actress, who had been both excited and nervous about taking on the challenge of playing the legendary soprano, wiped away tears as the applause continued. Throughout this touching moment, Jolie was seen hugging director Pablo Larraín and her co-stars, basking in the affection the audience showed towards the film.

The critically acclaimed film chronicles Callas’ tumultuous and tragic life during her final days in Paris in the 1970s. Jolie’s performance has already sparked speculation of a possible Oscar nomination, marking her first major role in a decade.

The release of “Maria” has been a high point in Jolie’s career, reinforcing her return to the awards spotlight and generating great anticipation for its upcoming release on Netflix.
