The Mexican forward Raul Jimenez He took advantage of the opportunity he received on Tuesday to start for the first time this season with Fulham and ended up scoring one of the goals in his team’s victory over Birmingham City (0-2) in the League Cup.
After being a substitute in the first two Premier League games, Raúl Jiménez was put in the starting eleven of the team managed by the Portuguese Marco Silva and the Mexican did not disappoint by converting a penalty in the 10th minute that put his team ahead.
The 33-year-old forward, who has been back-up to Brazilian Rodrigo Muniz in this season’s start in England, completely fooled the opposing goalkeeper with a low shot placed inside the right post to open the scoring at home to second-division Birmingham City.
Tuesday’s goal was the first for the experienced Mexican striker in the nascent English football season and the first since May 19 when he scored a double against Lutton Town in the last matchday of the last edition of the Premier League.
In this preseason Raúl Jiménez scored a couple of goals but it was not enough to convince the Portuguese coach to earn a place in the starting eleven, which went to the Brazilian Rodrigo Muniz who earned it during the second half of last season and keeps it at the start of the season.
In this way, the Mexican is taking advantage of the opportunities he receives to demonstrate his quality beyond the two substitutions he has had in this start, seeing minutes both in the defeat against Manchester United (1-0) and in the victory at the weekend against Leicester City (2-1).
Victory assured from the start
In addition to the penalty goal converted by Mexican Raúl Jiménez after just 10 minutes of play, Fulham did not take much longer to extend their lead and seal their victory against Birmingham City in their second round match of the English League Cup.
Just four minutes after the scoring had opened, the second goal for the Cottagers came courtesy of Jay Stansfield (m.14) after receiving a long pass from Joachim Anderson and being left alone in front of the goalkeeper, he finished with a shot placed inside the right post of the opposition goal.
Fulham thus recorded their second consecutive victory this season after beating Leicester City (2-1) in the second round of the Premier League and now continue their path in the League Cup where they are already in the next stage.
