Zelensky announces the capture of two more towns in the Russian Kursk region

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced in his address to the nation on Sunday evening (25.08.2024) that The Ukrainian army took control of two more towns in the Russian Kursk region.

“I just spoke with Commander-in-Chief (Oleksandr) Sirski. We are advancing in the Kursk region, one to two kilometers. We have taken control of two more towns”Operations are underway in another location,” Zelensky said in his speech.

The Ukrainian head of state also explained that his troops continue to take prisoners from among Russian soldiers in the Kursk region, where Kiev forces have occupied dozens of villages after crossing the border in early August.

“We are filling the ‘exchange fund’”Zelensky said, referring to the regular exchanges of prisoners of war between the two sides. Ukraine and Russia this week exchanged 115 soldiers from each side who were in enemy captivity.

Meanwhile, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on Monday that such hostile actions cannot go unanswered, that Russia must respond to Ukraine’s incursion into the western Kursk region and reiterated that the idea of ​​negotiating a ceasefire with kyiv is no longer relevant.
