The Government of Mexico dealt a strong blow to organized crime through the Secretariat of the Navy (SEMAR), which carried out the largest cocaine seizure in the current administration of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador (AMLO), with a total of 7.2 tons of the drugIn addition, 15 people were arrested.

It was on the coasts of Colima and Michoacán where the Mexican Navy dealt two precise blows against drug trafficking, one of the government’s goals, since organized crime has plunged a large part of that country into violence and despair.

The first event occurred southwest of Manzanillo, Colima, when naval personnel aboard a ship and with the support of a Panther-type helicopter intercepted three smaller vessels in which they were transporting 126 packages with an approximate weight of 5.6 tons of cocainewhich represents the largest seizure in a single event during the AMLO administration.

In addition, approximately 1,100 liters of fuel were seized at the same event and 15 criminals were arrested, the agency reported in a press release.

A blow to drug trafficking in Michoacán

The second blow to the drug trade was given by naval personnel with the support of a patrol ship and another Panther-type helicopter, in which 32 packages were seized, the same ones that contained cocaine weighing approximately 1.6 tons.

Michoacán is one of the Mexican states most devastated by drug trafficking, as criminal groups subjugate entire towns, controlling their entire life, including the prices of basic foodstuffs.

Both the detainees and the seized material were transported by sea to the docks of the respective naval commands and, once in port, were made available to the Attorney General’s Office (FGR), in order to carry out the corresponding investigations.

“Both actions are part of the maritime, air and land surveillance operations carried out by the Navy through the Mexican Navy, to inhibit criminal activity in order to guarantee and maintain the rule of law in the Mexican Marine Zones,” reads a statement.
