Poder Latinx continues to present “The Power of Your Health 2024”

Poder Latinx reported in a statement that it continues to organize a series of events in August under the initiative “The Power of Your Health”designed to highlight the critical importance of access to health and overall wellness care during Civic Health Month.

These events will serve as a platform to emphasize the crucial connection between civic participation and The political power of Latino communities to elect public officials that will create policies and laws that will promote and protect our health in the 2024 electionsmaintains the nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering the Latino community through voter registration, civic education and leadership development.

Throughout the month, Poder Latinx has been carrying out Activities to educate and empower the community through information sessions, workshops and community discussions on the intersection of health and civic engagement.

“By bringing these conversations to the forefront, we aim to inspire the Latino community to take action and ensure our health is a priority, motivating them to participate in the electoral process. Access to quality healthcare is not just a privilege, but a fundamental human right. This Civic Health Month, we remain united in our commitment to champion the health and well-being of the Latino community.” said Yadira Sánchez, executive director of Poder Latinx.

Upcoming events:

• National: 8/29 Your Power for Health: Your Voice, Your Vote (Facebook Live). 7:30pm to 8:30 pm EST. Topics will include environmental justice and its impact on health. Hosted by Poderosas Fellowship

• California: 8/31 Vote for Your Health: Health Resource Fair. 924 W Ropes Ave. Woodlake CA. 93567. 5 PM to 8 PM PST. Connect with local organizations offering essential health services, voter registration, and civic engagement opportunities while participating in meaningful conversations about the intersection of health and civic responsibility.

• Florida: August 31 Panel: Healthy Land, Healthy Lives: Community Well-Being and Climate Solutions. Addressing Air and Water Pollution and Climate Anxiety. 11 am – 4 pm EST. IMA Medical Center, 7714 E Colonial Dr, Orlando, FL 32807. Panelists: Dr. Richard Plate (UCF), Laura Betts (The Cleo Institute), Ashley Van Stone (City of Orlando)

• Georgia: August 24 Zero Weeks: The Urgent Need for Change. Powder Springs Library, 4181 Atlanta St, Powder Springs, GA 30127. 12-2 pm EST. Screening of the documentary “Zero Weeks.” Following the screening, there will be a couple of community members who will share their experience of not having access to paid leave.

The events scheduled for Civic Health Month are designed to all community members can access them in person or online and there will be opportunities to learn, participate and take action.
