CHICAGO — Former President Bill Clinton called Vice President Kamala Harris the leader who can represent “the voice” of the American people and criticized former President Donald Trump for “creating chaos.”

He said that with Trump, everything is “me, me, me,” sparking laughter from the audience. “When Kamala Harris is president, every day will be about you, you, you.”

The former president received standing ovations at various points, especially when he criticized Trump and celebrated Harris’ leadership.

“We have our elections and remember we have a guy who is pretty good at what he does,” he said. “Donald Trump has been a model of consistency. He keeps dividing, he keeps blaming, he keeps belittling other people. He creates chaos and then somehow he controls it.”

He noted that this year there is a clear choice for Americans: choosing between “the people,” through Harris, or someone with the vision: “Me, myself and I,” referring to Trump.

“Not a day goes by that I am not grateful for the opportunity given to me by the American people to be one of the 45 people who have held the office [como presidente]“He said. “Even on bad days, you can make something good happen. Kamala Harris is the only candidate in this race with the vision, the experience, the temperament, the will, and yes, the pure joy to do it on good days and bad. To be our voice.”

Clinton highlighted Kamala Harris’ career as a prosecutor, “chasing criminals” and her actions against drug traffickers.

“She has stood up to the trafficking gangs at the border,” he said. “She has fought to bring together those who are rebelling, homeowners. She has been our leader in the fight.”

Like Barack Obama, and even paraphrasing him, Clinton warned that the electoral contest will not be easy and highlighted the ability of Trump’s team to act in its favor.

“You should never underestimate [a las personas]”He said. “These people are really good at distracting us, at provoking doubts, at starting fires. […] We have to be tough.”

Bill Clinton called on Democrats to make Kamala Harris president, while highlighting the career of vice presidential candidate Tim Walz.

“After all, their careers began in community courts and in classrooms, [son] two leaders who spent their entire lives doing good work,” he said.
