American gymnast Jordan Chiles on Thursday criticized the withdrawal of her bronze medal as “unfair” on the ground at Paris 2024 after an appeal that gave Romanian Ana Barbosu the medal instead.

“I have no words. This decision feels unfair and is a significant blow. “Not just for me but for everyone who has fought for my journey,” Chiles wrote on her Instagram account.

The gymnast also lashed out against racist attacks she has suffered on social media, which she described as “extremely painful.”

“I am now facing one of the most challenging moments of my career. “Believe me when I say I have had many. I will approach this challenge as I have done with others and will do my best to ensure that justice is done. I believe that at the end of this journey, the people in control will do the right thing,” he said.

What happened to Jordan Chiles’ medal?

Last Saturday, when five days of the competition had already passed, Barbosu won bronze in Paris 2024 after the appeal filed before the CAS against the review of Chiles’ note was successful.

Barbosu had achieved the third best score in the floor final (13.700), and therefore the bronze medal, behind the Brazilian Rebeca Andrade (14.166) and the American Simone Biles (14.133).

But Chiles, the other American finalist, filed a complaint about her grade. original of 13,666, which had placed it in fifth position. The judges accepted her request and they gave her a 13,766 which improved her two places. Barbosu was left without a podium finish.

The Romanian team appealed to the Court of Arbitration, considering that Chiles’ claim was filed outside the one-minute deadline permitted by the regulations of the International Federation (FIG), specifically one minute and four seconds.

Barbosu was celebrating his bronze when he appeared on the scoreboards Chiles’ new note.

Seeing her, the Romanian dropped the flag from her hands and began to cry. although finally, and after several days of controversy, the bronze went to her.
