After having made its biggest deployment in the coverage of an Olympic Games since it has the broadcast rights, Telemundo compiled some impressive viewership figures for Paris 2024, thanks in part to the growing interest in women’s soccer in the United States.

The Miami-based company said today that Paris 2024 saw the eight most-watched Olympic football matches since the Rio 2026 Olympic Games, and the four most-watched were women’s football.

The most watched game was the match between the United States and Germany on July 28 with 731,000 viewers. In total, Attention for women’s football increased by 368% compared to the Tokyo 2020 Gameswhich were carried out in 2021.

In the audience statement released by Telemundo, it is indicated that the massive coverage that the company made, including the Telemundo and Universo channels and the offer on digital platforms via streaming on Peacock and Telemundo App, in addition to social networks, resulted in the figure of 3.9 billion minutes consumed in the 19 days of the Olympic celebration, representing 51% increase compared to Tokyo 2020.

And speaking strictly of streaming content, the increase was 643% with 122 million minutes on digital platforms. A total of 119 million views on social media marked a 461% increase compared to the previous Olympic Games.

Olympic football broadcasts, with narrations by communicators such as Natalia Astrain, Andrés Cantor and Manuel Sol, helped Telemundo register robust audience numbers in Paris 2024.

Telemundo achieved a 36% increase in total audience in Paris

The full Spanish-language presentation of Paris 2024 averaged 289,000 viewers across all platforms combined (TAD), 36% more than Tokyo 2020. The opening ceremony alone, which took place on the River Seine, had 686,000 viewers and 3.5 million minutes of streaming time.

Telemundo, which celebrated 20 years of broadcasting the Olympic Games in Spanish for the U.S. market, presented the opening and closing ceremonies for the first time. It employed a team of more than 40 hosts, commentators and reporters for its full coverage.

As for English-language coverage with US rights, NBC Universal’s various platforms totaled an average of 30.6 million viewers for an 82% increase compared to Tokyo 2020. The number of minutes consumed via streaming was 23.5 billion, an increase of 40% compared to all previous editions of the Olympic Games combined.

And with these figures reflecting the absolute “digitalization” of the Olympic Games in terms of user consumption, the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games will be held in four years, which from now on can be predicted to break all audience records in the country.
