The United States was not joking when it declared war on drugs due to the public health crisis unleashed by fentanyl consumption.

Justice has in its hands six important drug traffickers who contributed to the importation of this synthetic drug and who will be in court between September and October of this year, Those who sowed chaos and death in Mexico will live their worst nightmare and will be judged by the American justice system precisely because of the echo of their criminal activity.

One of those who will appear in court will of course be Ismael “El Mayo” Zambada, the last bigwig of the old school who founded and led the Sinaloa Cartel for five decades without being caught until now. The drug trafficker will appear in court on September 9, the date scheduled by federal judge Kathleen Cardone.

El Mayo faces charges in the states of Texas, Illinois, Washington and California, along with El Mayo, Joaquín Guzmán López, alias El Güero, one of the sons of Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzmán, was arrested. On the same day of his arrest in Texas he was transferred to the Federal Court of Illinois in Chicago, where his brother Ovidio, another of the big fish who has been captured by the US government, is supposedly also located. Both will appear on the same day, September 30, before Judge Sharon J. Coleman.

But everyone’s situation is quite different while, El Güero pleaded not guilty to the charges against him, Ovidio’s situation is a mystery after leaving the wall of federal prisons.

Several sources have confirmed that an agreement was reached so that he could now be a protected witness, Néstor Isidro Pérez Salas, alias El Nini, who was the head of security for the Guzmán brothers, was arrested by members of the Mexican army special forces in Culiacán, Sinaloa, The US authorities requested his extradition and he was sent to a maximum security federal prison in New York.

On May 30, he pleaded not guilty before District Judge Katherine Polk, he cried when he saw his family showing that even the toughest can bend, his next appearance will be on September 5, known as Supercop Genaro García Luna, former Mexican security secretary, He was known for fighting drug trafficking; however, he was actually its ally, after dealings in several fields his name came to light and he was arrested. His trial has been one of the most publicized. He was found guilty in February 2023 and his sentence has been postponed several times. It is expected that it will finally be handed down on October 9.

One of the only ones who does not belong to the Sinaloa cartel or has had any relationship with it is Rubén Oseguera González, son of Mencho, The founder of the fearsome Jalisco Nueva Generación Cartel is expected to appear in court on October 7, and several important drug traffickers are expected to testify at his trial.

El Menchito is accused of conspiracy to distribute cocaine and methamphetamine and use or possession of a firearm in relation to drug crimes. More charges could be added. The heir to the Jalisco Nueva Generación Cartel had reached a plea agreement, which would reduce his sentence from life imprisonment to just 40 years; however, at the last minute he changed his mind and declined this option.
