Liga MX champions America struggled to win to the Atlas (2-1), but in the end neither the scares, nor the errors and much less the hot flashes, were able to stop the flight of the Eagles in the Leagues Cup, in where they kept their status as favorites intact to be crowned in this competition between teams from Mexican soccer and Major League Soccer (MLS).

A victory achieved with more sparks than good collective football, as at various moments of the match they made it clear that they are struggling to find the level of the two tournaments pasts that led them to achieve the second Liga MX championship.

Now the goals of Erick “Chiquito” Sánchez, one of their reinforcements for the current championship and that of their greatest figure, Henry Martín They stopped the red and black rebellion that, with Rivaldo Lozano’s goal, put Luis Malagón’s goal in jeopardy, but in the end they were able to withstand the pressure and find the formula that led them to victory in their first game of this competition.

Before this game, there was a lot of expectation for the presentation of the current Liga MX bichampionship, where everyone wanted to see América put some shine on its performance and in the end, with certain sparks they justified the fact of appearing. until the round of 16 of the Leagues Cup, due to their sum of points in the Clausura 2023 and Apertura 2023 tournaments, they allowed him this privilege.

The actions

America started the match with great strength, trying to show that its strengths and powerful squad could allow it luxuries such as sending players onto the field who were not regular starters. such as the case of Uruguayan Brian Rodríguez or Javairo Dilrosun himself, as well as the newcomer Erick “Chiquito” Sánchez.

Thus, the American team did not take long to put its greater capacity into effect with the opening goal on the scoreboard in the minute 20 by Erick Sánchez in a play that was started by the Uruguayan Brian Rodríguez and that had the collaboration of Javairo Dilrosun and who also had the good fortune of the Colombian goalkeeper of the Atlas, Camilo Vargas, to end up embedding the ball in the net.

However, this goal, instead of helping América, kind of stopped its bully spirit and allowed Atlas to start to react, but without being able to reflect it on the scoreboard in the rest of the first half. But the American team did not react at the beginning of the second half, so they opened the door. for the equalising goal through José Rivaldo Lozano with a good header.

Right in these minutes of tactical chaos From America, there were actions such as an error by Luis Malagón that Jeremy Márquez could not convert into a goal when his header went just wide, but giving the impression that they could have caused more damage to the Americanists.

But that was all, the Eagles made adjustments to their scheme, sending Paraguayan Richard Sánchez and Chilean Diego Valdés onto the field, which allowed them to regain control of the actions and the generation of dangerous actions.

This is how the Americanista victory goal came when in the 74th minute, Dutchman Javairo Dilrosun made a great play with a fantasy move which allowed him to create space to send a low cross for Henry Martín to arrive at, who brilliantly connected the ball with a backheel to leave Camilo Vargas static and send the ball into the back of the red and white goal.

The goal put America on track for this important victory, leaving Atlas with no other options than just trying to attack in blocks, but without any further arguments that could put Luis Malagón’s goal in jeopardy.
