The United States national team remains firmly focused of seeking his 20th medal in the history of men’s Olympic basketball and this is thanks to the great performance he has had so far at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, where he recently defeated the Brazilian team from Rio with a score of 122 to 87 to earn his ticket to the semifinals where he will have to face Serbia’s Most Valuable Player and member of the Denver Nuggets, Nikola Jokic.
The game between the United States and Brazil was not an even one at any level. At this point, Steve Kerr’s team took the game completely seriously and never slowed down during the 40 minutes that lasted, never allowing the result to be even a minor discussion.
LeBron James once again the undisputed leader
The team packed with NBA players was once led more so for LeBron James, who led the offense and defense with a total of 12 points scored, handed out 9 assists and was able to steal 4 balls in a total of 16 minutes on the court.
For his part, Devin Booker was the most outstanding with 5 triples scored to complement his 18 points, followed by Anthony Edwards’ 17, Joel Embiid’s 14 and Kevin Durant’s 11. In addition, the American team converted 15 of the 31 long-distance shot attempts.
For its part, Brazil once again had Bruno as its main reference. Caboclo, who contributed 30 points and grabbed a total of 6 rebounds, and the living legend of Brazil and former NBA player, Marcelinho Huertas, played his last game in the Olympic Games, recording a total of 9 points and 5 assists.
Huertas is simply history in basketball
The South American point guard faced the United States at 41 years of age and after a legendary career. His career includes a total of two Pan American gold medals (Dominican Republic 2005 and Puerto Rico 2011), two silver medals on the continent (Argentina 2011 and Brazil 2022) and a first place at the Pan American Games in Brazil 2007. In addition, he defended the colors of Brazil both at the Olympic Games in London 2012 and Rio 2016, as well as at the World Championships in Turkey 2010, Spain 2014, China 2019 and Japan-Philippines-Indonesia 2023.
The United States will now have to confront Serbia in seeking to secure their 20th Olympic medal in their history. To date they have 16 gold medals, 1 silver (Munich 1972) and 2 bronze (Seoul 1988 and Athens 2004). For their part, the Balkan team will try to climb onto their second Olympic podium after their time in Yugoslavia and the silver in Rio 2016, led once again by Denver Nuggets NBA player Nikola Jokic.
