The boxer Erislandy Alvarez passed its final test in Paris 2024 and He defeated Frenchman Sofiane Ouhima in the 63.5 kg final to win the gold medal and give Cuba the fourth medal in these Olympic Games and the second golden.
“The Threat” Alvarez He won his Olympic championship by split decision (3-2) over the silver medalist in Rio 2016 in a difficult fight, in which although he controlled the three rounds, he was hit on several occasions by the experienced local boxer.
In this way, at 24 years old, the Cienfuegos native has made one of his dreams come true: to reign in boxing after abandoning gymnastics in the hope of having a better life financially, as he declared to the official Olympic Games website before the competition.
And it seems that the Cuban boxer has not forgotten what he learned in gymnastics, as he celebrated his victory by doing somersaults in the ring before getting off and preparing for the awards ceremony.
Álvarez gave his country its fourth Olympic medal in Paris 2024 and its first in boxingfollowing Tuesday’s gold with the historic record of the only five-time Olympic champion Mijaín López, who obtained his fifth consecutive gold in his specialty.
And this Wednesday, hours before Álvarez’s performance, Yusneylis Guzmán and Gabriel Rosillo gave a silver and a bronze, respectively, to the Caribbean country, also in struggle.
