The constant criticism and rumors that have been the subject of recent months Sergio “Checo” Perez In the midst of his bad moment with Red Bull this 2024 Formula 1 season, the Mexican has reaffirmed his position that there are no friendships at the highest level of motorsport.
This was confirmed by the Guadalajara-born driver in a recent interview with the De Estreno programme in which he also spoke about the lessons that his long career in F1 has left him with, especially since his arrival at the energy drink team for the 2021 season.
“There are no friends here, we know that from karting. When you are competing we have a lot of respect, but in the end, we know we are not friends, because everyone is looking out for their own interests”commented “Checo” Pérez who a couple of months ago signed a renewal with Red Bull by two years.
“When you live in this world, things come to you much sooner than they do to the world at large. Nothing surprises you, you know what is going on behind the scenes and in the end the only thing I have learned is that absolutely anything can happen.”added the tapatío.
Sergio “Checo” Pérez also touched on the subject of the criticism he has received in the midst of the bad moment he is currently going through, which has caused the Mexican to considerably lose ground in the driver classification in this 2024 Formula 1 season.
For the 33-year-old Mexican, the fact that he is one of the drivers for the Red Bull team and the demands that this entails has increased the noise due to a situation that many other drivers have found themselves in throughout their careers.
“If you pay attention, There are also other drivers who have had a period of bad races.. It is not noticeable at all. In the case of Red Bullthe media and critics talk a lot about it,” said the Mexican, who expressed confidence in being able to turn this situation around.
“There are always opportunities, that’s the beauty of this sport, you’re only as good as your last race. I’m working hard to get my season back on track and that’s the top priority – people just remember where you finished.”he noted.
The campaign is currently in its mid-season break and the action will resume later this month with the Dutch Grand Prix where “Checo” Pérez will try to finally end his run of nine races without a podium finish, something that has not happened since the Chinese Grand Prix.
