Los Angeles Mayor Travels to Paris for Olympic Closing Ceremony

Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass travels to Paris on Wednesday to participate in the closing ceremony of the Paris 2024 Games on August 11, where it will receive the Olympic flag as the next host city for the Summer Olympic Games: Los Angeles 2028.

Bass was part of the presidential delegation who attended the opening of the Olympic Games on July 26, along with First Lady Jill Biden and Democratic Senator from California, Alex Padilla, and other officials.

The city of Los Angeles prepares for the 2028 Olympic Gamesand the goal is to boost small businesses, create more jobs and achieve lasting improvements in relation to the environment and transportation in the region.

“It was an honor to travel to Paris as part of the First Lady’s White House delegation representing the United States on the world stage,” Mayor Bass said in a statement.

“I would like to congratulate the Mayor (of Paris, Anne) Hidalgo and Paris 2024 for the success of the Games so far and I thank them that they have opened their doors to us as we make crucial preparations for 2028“, he added.

Bass said it is a top priority ensure that preparations benefit Los Angeles residents for decades to come and benefiting local small businesses, creating local jobs and moving forward with better transportation in the city.

As mayor of the next Olympic and Paralympic city in 2028, Karen Bass will have an official role alongside Hidalgo at the closing ceremony on August 11, event where she will receive the official Olympic flag to bring back to her next home in Los Angeles.

Bass will travel to Paris from August 7 to 12where he will continue his meetings as well as take part in the closing ceremony, according to his office.
