Freddie Freeman has not been on the Dodgers team for the past two weeks. The first baseman had to miss the game because his son Max suffered from Guillain Barré syndrome.

The disease can be caused by an acute bacterial or viral infection.

Symptoms begin as weakness and tingling in the feet and legs that spread to the upper body. Paralysis may also occur.

According to Chelsea Freeman, Freddie’s wife and Max’s mother, the boy spent eight days in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). The son of the Dodgers star began to suffer from the illness during the All-Star Game.

“These have been the hardest and scariest days of our lives. Maximus is a very special boy and has been fighting VERY hard. This will be a journey of recovery, but we have faith that he will be completely healed. We have been blown away by the improvements made over the last 48 hours. Maximus was taken off his breathing tube and off the ventilator yesterday, which is a huge win for us,” Chelsea said two days ago.

On Sunday, he announced that the boy had left the ICU and would continue his recovery at home, which includes being able to walk again.

“After 8 long days in the Pediatric ICU We are officially HOME! Max still has a long road ahead to regain his strength and learn to walk again. But we are so grateful to have our family together again. Thank God for this miracle,” she wrote.

Freddie Freeman has not been with the team since July 25 while caring for his son. The team remains in first place in the National League West.

Freddie Freeman and Mookie Betts close to returning to the Dodgers

The Dodgers have multiple injured players and hope to get them back soon by the end of the season.

Freeman could return to the team by the end of the week if his son continues to recover.

Mookie Betts is taking multiple practices with the glove and bat. The shortstop could be arriving by mid-month after recovering from his wrist fracture.
