Emma Coronel reveals if she still loves El Chapo

Emma Coronel, wife of Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzmán, is enjoying her freedom.

In an exclusive interview with María Antonieta Collins for Despierta América, Coronel opened her heart and talked about her life after prison and discussed whether she would participate in a reality show. “El Chapo’s” wife also shared a little more about her current feelings for the drug lord and gave details about her first job after her release: being the model for a song that tells her own story.

In the interview, Coronel makes it clear that, amid all the changes coming to her life, her feelings for Guzmán remain the same.

“Me and him can’t have contact”she says to Collins, who asks her: “But the love continues?”

Colonel tells him: “Love will always continue, of course, of course.”

Her modeling career

Coronel, 35, who was released on September 13, 2023 after serving a reduced three-year sentence, said that part of what is required of her upon her release is to work. Therefore, she is now fulfilling her lifelong dream of being a model.

“I was hired to work as a model on a project that is my friend’s and that was my song. I heard it when they were writing it.”Colonel shared. “I am starting the same life at another stage”he commented.

When did Emma Coronel get out of prison?

The wife of Guzmán, the infamous drug trafficker, She was convicted in November 2021 of drug trafficking and conspiracy to launder money. In June 2023, she was transferred to a halfway house in California, from where she was recently released.

During her sentence, Coronel was singled out for her role in her husband’s criminal empire, including her involvement in El Chapo’s escape from a maximum-security prison in Mexico in 2015. Guzmán, 66, is serving a life sentence in a maximum-security prison in Colorado and, in a recent handwritten letter, requested that his wife and daughters be allowed to visit him.

Born near San Francisco, Coronel married Guzmán at 18 and gave birth to their twin daughters in 2011 while he was on the run. After his release, Coronel faces an uncertain future but with the opportunity to rebuild his life.
