Rafael Márquez began his return to the Mexican national team with a jibilla and after being introduced as Javier Aguirre’s new assistant, Visibly angry, he cut short the insinuations of his lack of commitment in his new position when questioned about the city where he will live in the coming months and defined this statement as a lack of respect for his career.
“I think that question is disrespectful, I think that those who know me know that I would not detract from this shield in the least, I think he is worth a lot and he has always been willing to collaborate with the national team in everything. If I didn’t accept being part of the coaching staff before it was because the conditions weren’t right, but now it will undoubtedly be an honour to work with a master like Javier Aguirre.”
And he added: “If I am here it is because I love my country and I will be at Javier’s command, living here or living there. My total commitment is to a working group and that is our protection”the five-time World Cup player highlighted.
Márquez stated that he does not consider it a mistake to come and collaborate with the Mexican national team. or that this decision could spoil his plans to manage Barcelona or some other renowned team in Europe.
“I wouldn’t take away value from the national team, from a World Cup, what you can do in a World Cup helps.”That doesn’t make me doubt that tomorrow, if I play a great role, I could have an opportunity. It’s progress, a step forward. I don’t see it as a step backwards,” he said in the question and answer section that preceded his official presentation to the Vasco Aguirre coaching staff.
Márquez also stated that: “I trust my work, I am in a sport that I know how to manage and the results decide a lot, in addition to the fact that I have always been characterized by not being afraid of work, I will try to get ahead, But if the results do not come, I am also prepared for failure, I am not afraid to face the challenge for the 2030 World Cup project.”
The famous Kaiser of the Tricolor also highlighted that he hopes to make his mark at the head of the Mexican national team: “It’s not just about thinking about this process, it’s about thinking about the next one. Among my goals is to be the strategist of the National Team and one day return to Barcelona as well,” ended.
