The start of Manchester City’s preseason has not been easy, especially after two defeats in the first friendly matches against Celtic Glasgow with a score of 4 goals to 3 and against AC Milan 3 goals to 2.

The technical director of the city team, the Spaniard Pep Guardiola, spoke of the bad moment of his team as a result of the numerous casualties that he has, not being able to count on the international players who are still on vacation, even though in less than 2 weeks City will play its first championship of the campaign against Manchester United in the Community Shield:

“I always use the NBA as an example. They play 80 games, but they have 3 or 4 months off. Maybe if football players got together and said ‘Enough!’, UEFA and FIFA would react and something would change in the calendar.”

Guardiola once again speaks up front

“We will be late for that game, but not only against United – August 10th – “We will also play against Chelsea and Ipswich,” said coach Guardiola, referring to the first two rounds of the English Premier League, scheduled for August 18 and 24.

It is not the first time he has done so, but once again Guardiola pointed out the ranks and their statements towards institutions that do not think about the players and their health.

“If the big bosses and all the institutions like FIFA, UEFA and the Premier League do not think about the “The players, then we coaches have to think about them, otherwise they will die,” said the Manchester City manager bluntly. “It is too much. That is why three weeks or a month of break are necessary, but the competition is there and you have to adapt,” he added.

For Guardiola, they are the same institutions that have no intention of being in power. The problem must be solved immediately, which in his opinion would be the best thing for football. “There is no solution, there will be no solution because there is no intention to find a solution. Clubs have to travel to show our brand around the world, to let other continents and places see our players, and we have to adapt,” explained the Santpedor coach.

The new Barcelona in the spotlight

After losing to Celtic and Milan, City will have to face a pair of friendlies against Barça and Chelsea: “We would have liked to have had a proper preparation, but it is impossible because the national teams deserve to play and all the institutions like FIFA and UEFA and the local competitions want to defend their product and make games. We have a good team when everyone returns. We have three, four, five interesting young players if we need them,” said Guardiola.
