The sanction contrasts with the events that went around the world, where Osorio lost his head because the referees did not notice the seriousness of the player’s injury. It was expected that the Leagues Cup would take a more severe stance against the aforementioned coach, who is not the first time he has lost his temper, since in Colombian football and as a strategist of the The Mexican team at the 2018 Confederations Cup adopted the same attitude towards the work of the referees.

Now, under the competition regulations that govern the Leagues Cup, it was determined to sanction the Colombian coach under this criterion, as well as applying a financial penalty that will only apply to this tournament and future editions of the same.

The sanction statement stated the following: “In the 13th minute of the match between LAFC and Club Tijuana, Tijuana’s Technical Director, Juan Carlos Osorio received a red card for using offensive language and violent behavior towards the referees. In accordance with articles 4.2.C and 13.2.4 of the 2024 Leagues Cup Competition Regulations, the Disciplinary Committee determined a sanction of 4 matches suspension and a fine for Osorio.”

As you may recall, last Friday during the aforementioned game, Christian Rivera was left on the grass after suffering a strong blow, although the referee was slow to react to allow the footballer to receive the corresponding attention, which caused great annoyance to the strategist. Osorio initially went to complain to the fourth official, but later, when he was confronted by a linesman, he stood face to face with him in a hostile attitude, which earned him an immediate red card.

Obviously, the Salvadoran referee Iván Barton showed him the red card, but Osorio’s embarrassing and negative act had already been captured in countless images that leave the team in a bad light. the strategist’s stability and his affinity for losing his head at critical moments.

The amount of the fine was not established, nor was it specified whether said sanction also applies to other tournaments. under the regulations of Concacaf and FIFA, when it should be that way, that is, in all tournaments, sanctions should be standardised to guarantee the good behaviour of players, coaches and managers.
