Los Angeles Dodgers make moves on trade deadline and brought in a bat and a pitcher in a triple trade. The team will have the arrival of Tommy Edman, a utility player who played for the St. Louis Cardinals, and right-handed pitcher Michael Kopech from the White Sox.
For their part, the St. Louis Cardinals will have right-handed pitcher Erick Fedde and outfielder Tommy Pham. The Chicago White Sox will receive Cuban Miguel Vargas from the Dodgers and three prospects from Los Angeles.
Here’s how the triple trade between the Dodgers, Cardinals and White Sox looks:
- The Dodgers receive Tommy Edman and reliever Michael Kopech.
- Cardinals receive: Starting pitcher Erick Fedde and outfielder Tommy Pham.
- White Sox receive: IF Miguel Vargas and prospects Alexander Albertus, Jaral Perez.
How do these players help the Dodgers?
Tommy Edman, 28, is a utility player who can play second base and the outfield, a position that needs outfield depth.
Edman has played 5 seasons for the Cardinals. He has a .265 batting average, 590 hits, 53 home runs, 222 RBIs and 343 runs scored. He has won 1 Gold Glove.
Edman has not played this season due to a wrist injury. The utility player is expected to return to the field soon.
Meanwhile, Michael Kopech will be coming in to shore up the team’s bullpen. Kopech is 2-8 with a 4.74 ERA, 59 strikeouts and 9 saves in 43 appearances this season.
The right-hander is expected to help a bullpen that has been punished in recent weeks by rivals.
The Cardinals add an arm to their team who can go multiple innings and has proven to have a solid season. This helps St. Louis’ wild-card hopes.
