FIFA rejected the appeal of Argentina after the scandal against Morocco at Paris 2024. The president of the Argentine Football Federation (AFA) reported that FIFA did not take into account the protest after the defeat.
The Argentine Olympic team protested after waiting for almost two hours and having a goal disallowed that prevented them from drawing in their debut against Morocco.
Several Moroccan fans entered the pitch and even threw firecrackers at the Argentina bench during the 90+16 minute equaliser.
“The FIFA Disciplinary Committee rejected the protest filed regarding “We are in response to the events that occurred during the match against Morocco. In defence of our rights, the AFA will request the reasons for the decision and will evaluate the relevant appeal proceedings,” said Claudio Tapia, president of the AFA.
Lionel Messi and several Argentine players complained
This announcement follows a long list of complaints in Argentina – including from Lionel Messi – for the restart of the match and the cancellation for offside of an agonizing goal.
After a lengthy interruption of play due to the invasion of the pitch by Moroccan fans and the throwing of bottles and at least one firecracker at the South American team while they were celebrating the 2-2 score.
“Waiting almost two hours in the locker room for, after the invasion of the field “The lack of proper play by Moroccan spectators and the violence suffered by the Argentine delegation, our players having to go out again to warm up and continue playing a match that should have been suspended by the main referee, is truly nonsense that goes against the rules of the competition,” said Tapia.
The manager described what happened as “regrettable.”
“Added to this, the opinion of the captains of both teams, who believed that the game should not be resumed, was not heard,” he added.
