Mayor Bass travels to the French capital for the opening of the Olympic Games

Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass travels to Paris on Wednesday to attend the opening of the 2024 Summer Olympics on Friday, accompanied by members of the City Council and civic leaders.

Mayor Bass travels to the French capital for the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games

Bass traveled to Washington DC on Tuesday to fly to the capital of France as part of the presidential delegation led by First Lady Jill Biden.

In addition to Mayor Bass, the Los Angeles delegation includes: Board President Paul Krekorian; Metro Los Angeles Executive Director Stephanie Wiggins; Councilwoman Traci Park, the president of the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games, and other local politicians.

According to a statement posted on his website, during his trip, Bass will join Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo at the inauguration ceremony. Later, will meet with stakeholders to help small businesses, create local jobs, improve environmental and transportation conditions in the lead up to the 2028 Los Angeles Games.

Bass will also visit the Team USA High Performance Training Centerwill meet with athletes and their families representing the U.S. Olympic team and visit competition sites to observe venue operations.

Heading towards the Olympic Games to be held in four years, Los Angeles Received $80 Million for Metropolitan Busesas well as $900 million in federal funding for infrastructure and the metropolitan rail system.

“The city of Los Angeles must be prepared to host the Olympic and Paralympic Games“This trip is vital to that preparation, while generating business development and learning from innovative housing, green transportation and infrastructure projects,” Bass said.

On Friday, Bass and members of the presidential delegation, including California Senator Alex Padilla, will attend the inauguration ceremonybefore returning to Los Angeles on July 27.

The Mayor of Los Angeles will fly back to Paris on August 7 to attend the closing ceremony on Sunday, August 11, when will receive the official Olympic flag as a representative of the city hosting the next Summer Olympics in 2028.

For this ceremony, The presidential delegation will be led by Second Gentleman Douglass Emhoffand includes California Sen. Laphonza Butler and California Rep. Robert Garcia, according to a White House statement.

From September 6 to 8, 2024, Mayor Bass will travel to Paris again to attend the closing ceremony of the Paralympic Gamesan event in which she will receive the Paralympic flag that will fly at the 2028 sporting event.
