The Mexican selection has new leaders on the bench. Mexico will now be led by Javier Aguirre and Rafa Marquez. Luis Fernando Tena could have been part of Jaime Lozano’s cycle, but “Flaco” rejected the proposal.

Jaime Lozano left the Mexican national team through the back door after being chosen as Diego Cocca’s successor. While he was planning his team, “Jimmy” and the Mexican Football Federation (FMF)they thought of Luis Fernando Tena to put together a great work group. But “Flaco” did not accept the proposal.

“They offered me to be Jimmy’s assistant. I would have been very happy, but I had a commitment here in Guatemala.”They have treated me very well and I have a project and a commitment to the people here, trying to get Guatemala to play in a World Cup for the first time,” Tena said in statements released by W Deportes.

Luis Fernando Tena currently coaches the Guatemalan national team. With the Guatemalan team, the Mexican coach has achieved very good results.. “El Flaco” has directed 36 games and has achieved victory in 15 of them. The records are completed with 8 draws and 13 defeats.

Tena did not agree with Lozano’s decisions

Jaime Lozano made a drastic decision for the 2024 Copa América. “Jimmy” considered that the continental tournament was the time to take a step forward to promote generational change in the Mexican national team. Luis Fernando Tena acknowledged that he did not agree with this action and believes that it could have been one of the factors that cost Lozano his job.

“I would not have agreed that players like Ochoa, Chucky, Henry Martin, Raul, would not go to Copa America”It wasn’t a smart move and it didn’t work out. Maybe Jimmy would still be the manager if that hadn’t happened,” he added.

Luis Fernando Tena is remembered for having led the Mexican national team in the 2012 London Olympics. On that occasion, El Tri was crowned champion of the competition, even beating a Brazilian team that included Neymar Jr. in its ranks.
