The ex-president Donald Trump may regret choosing JD Vance as his running mate for the presidential race.
This is according to various reports based on personnel close to the Republican campaign, who chose Vance as his vice president during the Republican National Convention (NRC) in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
“Republicans I spoke to today, some of them still hungover from what seemed to many to be a victory night celebration in Milwaukee, expressed shock at the news of Biden’s departure,” wrote The Atlantic’s Tim Alberta.
“Party officials had left town believing the race was nearly over. Now they were faced with the reality of reinventing a campaign (that had been optimized, in every way, to defeat Biden) against a new rival,” it added.
That report was shared by Alberta, who said she spoke to several Republicans about the Trump’s possible regret in choosing Vance.
“The most surprising thing I heard yesterday from Trump allies was the questioning of JD Vance: a selection, they acknowledged, that [nació] “of arrogance,” Alberta wrote on X, formerly Twitter.
He added that former President Trump’s campaign, according to sources, should have focused on persuading undecided voters.
Business Insider picked up The Atlantic’s report and added that political science experts who MAGA group has “legitimate reasons” to be concerned about Vance’s election.
Fears are confirmed with the arrival of Vice President Kamala Harris as the virtual Democratic presidential candidate and the departure of President Joe Biden, against whom the Republican campaign had a clear strategy, mainly regarding his health.
“Trump allies said they were confident in his campaign plan, which was designed to defeat Biden,” Business Insider reported.
However, experts consulted acknowledge that the selection of Vice President Harris poses a new challenge to the Republicans.
