Secret Service suggests Trump avoid outdoor rallies

The US Secret Service is encouraging former President Donald Trump not to hold large outdoor rallies for the 2024 election in some cases following attempted assassinations of the Republican presidential candidate, The Washington Post first reported Tuesday.

Two other sources familiar with the Trump campaign’s operations confirmed to NBC News that Current plans are to hold indoor ralliesbut they also said that Trump may participate in outdoor events smaller or Larger rallies at venues where entrances are more tightly controlled and there are no problems with nearby elevated ground, such as stadiums.

Spokespeople for the Trump campaign and the Secret Service did not immediately respond to media requests for comment Tuesday evening.

The news of the change of headquarters comes on the day that Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle announced her resignation. In her resignation letter, Cheatle said she took “full responsibility for the security breach” that occurred during the assassination of Trump in Pennsylvania.

Trump has a habit of holding large outdoor ralliesaccording to a source, who stressed that this did not mean that he would not hold another event with a large crowd outdoors.

But the change to Consider whether to hold an event indoors or outdoors on a case-by-case basisis part of heightened security measures in the wake of the Pennsylvania rally shooting.

Trump told Newsmax in an interview Tuesday in which he called Kimberly Cheatle’s resignation as Secret Service director “inevitable” that his team had asked the Secret Service for more security assistance before the shooting.
