Amid the political turmoil following Joe Biden’s withdrawal from the presidential race, his son, Hunter Biden, made a public display of affection, thanking his father for everything he has done for the country and expressing his admiration.

“All my life, I have admired my father”he began. “How could he suffer so much pain and yet give so much of his heart to others? Not just in the policies he passed, but in the individual lives he touched,” in a clear reference to his father losing his wife and daughter in a car accident in late 1972, in a car accident that was survived by his sons Hunter and Beau, who died in 2015 from a brain tumor.

“For a lifetime I have witnessed him absorb the pain of countless Americans to whom he gave his personal phone number, because he wanted them to call him when they were hurting. When their last hopes slipped through their fingers,” Hunter Biden wrote in a letter made public by Naomi Biden.

“That unconditional love has been his guiding light as president and as a father. He is unique in public life today in that there is no distance between Joe Biden the man and Joe Biden the public servant of the last 54 years. I am very lucky to be able to tell him every night that I love him and thank him. I ask all Americans to join me tonight in doing the same. Thank you, Mr. President. I love you, Dad.”

Hunter Biden asked America to thank his father and praised him for being able to “absorb the pain of countless ordinary Americans” after withdrawing from the presidential race and endorsing Kamala Harris to face Donald Trump in the November general election.

On June 10, Hunter Biden, the only surviving son of President Joe Biden, was found guilty of three felonies related to a firearm purchase he made in 2018. The charges accuse him of providing false information and unlawfully possessing the firearm due to his alleged drug use at the time.

Meanwhile, in the same way, Jill Biden sent him a token of her love, retweeting his letter with two red hearts.

Naomi Biden, the Bidens’ eldest granddaughter, for her part, wrote a lengthy post on X, where she said she was “proud” of her “dad,” which is what the grandchildren call President Biden.
