In 2021, The UANL Tigers made another impact with the signing of Florian Thauvin. The French footballer arrived to Liga MX with great credentials. However, his performance was not as expected. More than a year after his departure, Thauvin is looking to regain his form.

Florian Thauvin arrived in Mexican football with the label of world champion. The Frenchman was crowned champion at the 2018 World Cup in Russia and was one of Marseille’s standout players.

Expectations were high for the former Newcastle player, especially given the background of André-Pierre Gignac. But during his internship in Mexico, Thauvin was only able to score 8 goals and provide 5 assists in 38 games played with the feline team.

Thauvin seeks rebirth in Italy

In January 2023, Florian Thauvin left for Serie A side Udinese. After a disappointment in Mexico, The Frenchman managed to get another opportunity on the Old Continent.

However, Thauvin arrived at Udinese with little rhythm and a season still in development. Obviously, the Frenchman’s adaptation period was much more complicated. In his first six months, the Frenchman was unable to stand out.

For the 2023/2024 season, Florian Thauvin was there from the start in the preseason. There were no more excuses for the veteran world champion. In this sense, the 31-year-old winger’s level improved and he had very good numbers in line with the demands of Serie A.

The former Tigres de la UANL player accumulated 31 matches this season (1,870 minutes on the field). During this number of matches, Thauvin managed to score 6 goals and provide 5 assists.

Thauvin and his club fought hard to avoid relegation. Udinese finished 15th in Serie A. The Italian team is now just three points away from the relegation zone.
