Trump describes attack against him and accepts Republican presidential nomination: “We are going to have a great victory”

MILWAUKEE.- Former President Donald Trump has accepted the Republican Party’s presidential nomination for the third time.

“I will be president for all of America, not just half of America,” he said. “Tonight I accept the nomination as presidential candidate.”

After accepting the nomination, Trump spoke about the assassination attempt he faced in Pennsylvania.

“It was a hot, beautiful day… in Pennsylvania; the music was playing and the campaign was going well,” he said.

He recalled that he was talking about the “great job on immigration” he did in his administration, when he heard “something.”

“I asked myself, ‘What was that? It could only be a bullet. My head was covered in blood. ’” she said. “I felt safe because I have God on my side.”

After praising the work of Secret Service agents, Trump said: “I wasn’t supposed to be here today.”

Republicans shouted “Nooo!” in disapproval of that statement and shouted: “Yes, you are! Yes, you are! Yes, you are!”

Late in his speech, Trump introduced the former first lady: “My wonderful wife, Melania.” He then thanked his entire family for accompanying him and named his children and grandchildren.

“We have an illegal immigration crisis”

Listing some of the problems he seeks to solve in the United States, former President Trump said the country faces an “immigration crisis.”

“This will be the most important election in the history of our country,” he said. “Under the current administration, it is, in fact, a nation in decline. We have an inflationary crisis that is making life less affordable, devastating the incomes of those working in low-income families, and addressing a simpler question that they never understand.”

He then spoke about the “invasion” taking place on the border.

“We also have the illegal immigration crisis that is happening right now, as we sit here in this beautiful setting,” he said. “It is a massive invasion at our southern border that is spreading misery … poverty, disease and destruction to communities.”

Challenge for Mexico and China

Trump insisted that current trade agreements take away American jobs and advocated for producing in the US and bringing jobs back to this country.

He criticized the United Auto Workers. “They should be ashamed” of themselves for allowing jobs to go.

He again pointed out that countries called “allies” of the US end up “taking advantage”, something he had already pointed out in his previous campaigns.

“Often these other countries are seen as allies and, taking advantage of the fact that the rest of us are losing jobs or income, they take everything and destroy our businesses,” he said.

He claimed that he transformed NAFTA (with Mexico and Canada) to become the USMCA.

“I got rid of NAFTA,” he said.

“Under Trump, Russia took nothing”

Trump criticized the current global situation and said that when he was running for president there were warnings about what could happen in the world, but he defended himself: “Under Trump, Russia did not take anything.”

“Russia was afraid that China was afraid. The whole world was afraid of it. Nothing was going to happen. The whole world was at peace. And now the world is exploding around us because of these things we read about,” he said. “Under President Bush, Russia invaded Georgia; under President Obama, Russia took Crimea; under the current administration, Russia is, after all, Ukraine. Under President Trump, Russia took nothing.”

Trump’s speech lasted more than an hour and a half, after which the Republican asked for the collaboration of his coreligionists.

“I only ask for your vote,” he said. “And I will never, ever let you down.”

Former First Lady Melania Trump took the stage and kissed her husband on the cheek. The rest of the Trump family then took the stage and the red, white, blue and gold balloons were dropped, flooding the stage and the places occupied by the Republican delegates who chose Trump as their candidate.
